The first region free modification by Virus turned out not be RCE proof. Virus now did a great job and made this RCE proof region free firmware where you even can set the region code! Also some extra functionallity is again enabled with this update. This update is based on firmware version B338, Tom released a new firmware with the changes from this update based on the newer 342 firmware version here.
After the update you can set the player to RCE proof region free or any other desired region using the following key combinations:
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:
Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 0, Audio, 8, * requested region code here (1-8) *, Subtitle, 1
3. Player will reset and requested region code will be set.
- For example to set region code to 3 press: "Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 0, Audio, 8, 3, Subtitle, 1"
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:
Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 0, Audio, 8, 1, Subtitle, 4
3. Player will reset and set to "region-free" and "RCE-free" mode

2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:
Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 0, Audio, 8, 9, Subtitle, 1
3. Player will reset and set to factory region code
The player can now directly playback MPEG1 and MPEG2 files from a CD or DVD. Currently sound isn't support.
Now the S295 users can enjoy the advanced picture adjustment features of the S49 player. Click here for more info. To make this feature permanent follow these instructions:
1. Turn the player on without a disc inserted
2. Press and hold "Pause" + "Play" on the player and than press "8" on the remote
3. Press Cancel
4. Press Functions
5. Now go to the players "Setup" menu and change at least one setting
6. Quit the menu by pressing "Return"
7. Turn Player off
Now the model data has been copied to the players flash memory and don't need to be entered again.
MP3 and WMA on DVD support is enabled with this update. However the playback menu you see first when you insert an MP3/WMA-DVD won't show the audio tab. To play the audio files you can choose the "All" tab or press the playlist button.

This firmware hack is not made and released by Panasonic, the update is at your own risk. If the update goes wrong for any reason, there is chance that Panasonic won't repair you unit because no official firmware was installed.
