First Person Shooters
First Person Shooter (FPS) games have been popular since Wolfenstein was released, a lot of classic games have followed Wolfenstein - Doom, Duke Nukem and of course Quake.
Luckily for us, many of those early (and even some later) shooters have been ported over to the Dreamcast, not the game itself, but the software engine they run on. In this way it was possible to use either the shareware version or the full version of the game with the same software.
Here is where we come in, from almost all good FPS games there was a demo or shareware version released, this is the game with all the functions, but most of the time one episode or a few levels. Those demo's were of such high quality, and had enough gameplay time, they soon became very popular.
We want to bring those shareware versions back to the Dreamcast by releasing an easy to burn CD image with the shareware version included!, we also give you the opportunity to use the full version if you have the complete CD of that game lying around. Luckily, some of the older FPS games are now becoming freeware, as soon as they do (and if the Dreamcast can play them), we will bring you a CD image of the game along with the software to play them on the Dreamcast.
But that is not all, many FPS games let you modify the game so that you can add your own enemies, levels, or even make a different game!, these modifications are called 'mods'.
Most of the time, mods only work with the full commercial versions of the game, but with some tricks there is a possibility to use the mods with the shareware version of that game. So we are also going to bring you FPS games with mods included in the future.
